University student uses small business to educate himself

Overview

Denis Mukasa is a first-year student at Kyambogo University who also runs a successful grocery business selling yellow bananas, onions, tomatoes, and other items. Prior to attending the Kyusa training, he had considered quitting the business due to discouragement from those who believed it was a business meant for women. However, the training reignited his passion for the grocery business, which he had developed since he was young.

Denis initially started out selling avocados while he was in senior one. Despite his desire to continue his education after completing primary school, he lacked the financial support to do so. In order to generate school fees, he began selling avocados. Although he attempted to work for others, the working conditions did not accommodate his school schedule. He then decided to start his own business, which allowed him to continue his studies and work at the same time.

In his own words…

Kyusa’s 6-day training was a game-changer for me and my business. I gained valuable insights on self-discovery, strategic positioning, and professional business practices. Prior to the training, I had never thought of expanding my business beyond my immediate community, but thanks to Kyusa, I now have a plan and strategy on how to scale up my business. Since the training, I have been actively applying the skills learned. By targeting my customers and offering promotions, I have seen a significant increase in sales and customer base in just two months. Kyusa has truly opened my eyes to the possibilities of what my business can achieve, and I am excited about the future. I highly recommend Kyusa’s training to any young entrepreneur with a viable business idea. The skills and knowledge gained will not only help you start and grow your business but also equip you with valuable tools to succeed in the competitive market. Thank you, Kyusa, for the empowerment and hope for a better future.”
